History : In surface, Beaune appellation is one of most important of the Coast. But Beaune, town of approximately 20 000 inhabitants, is also and especially the wine capital of Burgundy. Sit of an important trade, center of a very important motorway node, it’s one of the tourist cities of France. The sale of the wines of Hospices became a world event, and represents certainly one of the most famous charity sales. The wines, primarily red, are full with force and distinction. The geographical situation allowed the classification in first vintages of a great part of the vineyard, and, among most prestigious, we can retain Bressandes, Clos du Roy, Grèves, Clos des Mouches, Teurons and Champimonts. In 1999, the AOC produced 20 035 hl red wine and 2 062 hl white wine. Character of the wines : The reds harvested in the south are tannic and well-built, strong in colour and with well-developed aromas. In the north the colour is less deep and wines smoother. Greedy suggestion : Roast of veal, chops first of lamb
