Tasting Notes (recommended):The 2010 Giesen Chardonnay has ripe citrus, vibrant stonefruit, baked apple and dry spice aromas with some mealy complexity. The palate is long and full flavoured with layers of textural fruit and subtle oak influence with a warm, lingering finish.

Vinification (Wine-making)

Method:This is a blend of four Wairau valley vineyards. The aim was to produce a wine showing fruit intensity with restrained oak influence which is approachable early and suitable for every occasion. Once picked and pressed, the juice was predominantly fermented in tank then transferred to older French barrels. About 15% was fully fermented and matured in French barrels (6% were new) and most of this was allowed to ferment wild using indigenous vineyard yeast. When fermentation was complete the wine was matured on yeast lees for 10 months before blending. Once blended the wine was given a light fining, enhancing its aromatic and flavour profile. It was bottled in September 2011.
