Domaine de l’Aure, family owned domain, is located in Saint Hilaire d’Ozilhan. This little village in the Southern Côtes du Rhône area, on the right bank of the Rhône at 4 km to the famous aqueduct “Pont du Gard”.
This geograpgical situation allow us to benefit to an exceptional climate for the vine : a hot and dry summer, a temperate winter and especially the “mistral”. This strong wind ventilate our vine, give this fine character at our wines and help us in the "integrated viticulture". The Domaine de l’Aure obtained the “Terra Vitis” certification
We were keen on include the wind in the name of our domain. “l’Aure” mean the wind in “Occitan” our regional language.
Michel Cruzel, owner of the domain, succed to his father in 1961. he developed, with his family, the vineyard. From 10 ha in 1961, the domain extend now 50 ha divided in 3 terroirs allow us to elaborate fine wine with a big diversity.
The Domain was still precursor and Michel Cruzel a pionner in the region. In 1969, the new fields are planting with Syrah and Grenache. At the end of the 80’s we developed the integrated viticulture. The practice of the integrated viticulture show our desire to elaborate quality wines as such as protect terroir and nature.
Our new winery builded in 2006 is made with traditionnal materials (Gard Stone…), use a minimu of energy and is totally integrated in the landscape.
Winery materials is very modern : inox vat, de steeming on the fields, temperature control…
The Domaine de l’Aure is in an historic region. Precursor and pionner, the Romans introduce wine growing in France here near the Via Domitia. They built the most famous aqueduct, “le Pont du Gard”, with local materials : Gard stone. They created the roman tile. The Roman and their history are our source of inspiration. The Domaine de l’Aure perpetuate the Roman tradition to elaborate fine wines as it preseve the nature.
