About Us

Chateau BERNATEAU has been owned by the LAVAU family for the past 5 generations having been built in 1854 in the middle of a natural green setting on the edge of a charming stream. The vineyards span 14 hectares and are located on the slopes and at the foot of south facing hills, with argilo-calcareous soil, planted with noble vines: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvesting : Traditional Vineyard crops are well planned. Grapes are selected on a sorting table. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. Half of the barrels are renewed with new oak barrels every year. Vats are selected before mixing. Clarifying is done using egg white. Average annual production of the estate : 80.000 bottles.
