Château Plaisance lies in the village of Vacquiers, in the south-eastern corner of the Fronton appellation. The property currently has 30 hectares of vineyards growing Negrette (60%), Syrah (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) and Gamay (5%) grape varieties.
The Penavayre family has been growing vines in Vacquiers for several generations.
In 1991, father-and-son team Louis and Marc Penavayre joined forces to move the family business into higher gear, increasing the acreage of their vineyards from 7 hectares to 16 hectares.
The father is a self-taught winemaker. He made the decision to concentrate on producing quality wines very early on and planted varieties with a view to attaining appellation status. Until 1990, he sold his wines under the Domaine Louis Penavayre label, winning a number of prestigious awards.
The son is an oenologist and graduate of the ENITA agricultural engineering school. For four years, he headed a wine-research unit run by the INRA agronomy research institute at Montreuil-Bellay in the Anjou region.
QUALITY inspires everything they do.
