"GWS feedback from ProWein 2009" - Insider News wine articles
Helping wine businesses to stay current on the international wine market, The Insider News ' wine articles feature key information and events about the world wine industry.
As we mentioned in one of our previous newsletters, Global Wine & Spirits was present again this year at ProWein, a major annual meeting point for the wine and spirits industry.
Despite the tense economic situation worldwide, optimism abounds in the international wine and spirits industry, as Sabine Petzoldt saw for herself at the ProWein International Wine and Spirits trade show held at the Düsseldorf Exhibition grounds from March 29 to 31, 2009.
More than 35,000 professionals from around the world took the opportunity to visit Germany's foremost wine and spirits show. The United States, Scandinavia, Benelux, Switzerland and Slovenia were some of the countries with the greatest increase in foreign visitors to the show. More than 3,100 exhibitors showcased their products, with traditional wine-producing countries like France, Italy and Germany joined by "newcomers" such as Egypt and Algeria. Some 1,000 wines featured in the popular Central Tasting Area were waiting to be discovered.
Highlights of the show included Cool Climate Wines (wines with moderate alcohol content), Silvaner Wines (in celebration of the varietal’s 350th anniversary) and Vintage Cocktails. Organic wines, which are subject to stringent biological and ecological standards, remained as popular as ever.
Sabine Petzoldt had the opportunity to visit and taste the wines of several Global Wine & Spirits seller members and was impressed by the quality and diversity of their products. If you missed out on tasting their wines at Prowein, it’s not too late! You can still learn about them right here and schedule appointments with them at upcoming wine shows: To learn more...
