J. Lohr is one of the few premium brands which has believed and practised the French philosophy of grape growing for over 25 years. As a result, Jerry Lohr has judiciously selected two distinct regions, Arroyo Seco in Monterey County for growing Chardonnay and Paso Robles, for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.
Jerry's passion for agriculture and product excellence lead him beyond matching the optimum growing region with the correct grape variety. He uses a highly selective process of matching the exact varietal clone with the most favorable soil type. Prior to planting a vineyard the soils are carefully prepared using a method called 'fertility balancing'. Each of these stpes is critical to maximize the flavor of our harvested grapes. Our winemaker can the fully excercise his skills and creative talents to ensure that J. Lohr wines will continue to set the standards of quality by achieving superior flavor intensity while retaining remarkable balance.
