Shiraz is a variety that when grown in the cool maritime climate of Margaret River has a style quite distinctive from other Australian regions. 2003 in Margaret River was an ideal vintage for Shiraz. The weather was warm and dry producing good tannin ripeness, great colour and fabulous flavour retaining the fresh primary fruit characters. This wine shows a lovely ruby colour and wonderful complex aromas of blackberries, cherry and a hint of liquorice and pepper. Time spent in French oak barrels has added elegance to this wine and the oak is well integrated with flavours reminiscent of plum, spice, raspberries and mulberries. Matured in American and French oak, the subtle, velvety tannin structure gives this wine a richness and persistent finish. This Shiraz wine can be enjoyed now, and will further develop in the bottle for the next five to seven years.
