Denomination:Angelo Delea – 6616 Losone
The Delea business was founded in 1983 by a young Angelo Delea, in love with the land – and with an intense passion for wine. When he chose the path leading towards producing wines, he had an idea: to make Bordolese-type wines. Within few years of hard work and determination, he succeeded in establishing a noteworthy viticultural legacy. Eleven hectares of vineyard are rented and another 9 are owned. A fraction of these vineyards can be found on the right bank of the Ticino river, while others found in the towns of Gudo and Sementina (where a farm is being developed that breeds Irish Galloway steer and cultivates 400 olive trees), in the town of Locarno, in Pedemonte and in Mendrisiotto (town of Rancate) – Castello di Cantone – on 6 hectares.
Other grapes are procured by approximately 200 Ticinese producers who run circa 70 hectares of vineyards. The current production is around 600,000 bottles, between spumanti (180,000 bottles), whites, rosés and reds. Angelo Delea is also a skillful distiller and produces various grape varietals of “grappa” and other fruit distillates (apricot, peach, pear, cherry and American grape varietals). A new cellar was inaugurated in 1993 and includes a large, modern wine shop open to the public. This underground, very modern wine-making and aging cellar is capable of storing more than 600 barriques for the aging of red and white wines. The company actually has 30 collaborators, 5 of which are in the agricultural field.
