Scea Mas du Soleilla La Clape is a peninsula in the South of France, located between Narbonne and the Mediterranean. The soil (terroir) is mainly made of calcareous gravel, fractured limestone and argilo-calcareous marl. The vicinity of the sea, the slight altitude unfavoured slow maturation of the grapes. These natural factors enable to produce exceptional wines. The appellation La Clape is a small wine region whose notoriety was forged over centuries. The word Mas designates a group of agricultural buildings. Soleilla is the name of a near by hill. The vineyard The age of the vines is an average of 25 years. The surface is 24 ha. We cultivate local varieties such as Bourboulenc (white), Syrah (Shiraz), (black) Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre, as well as some that have well been acclimated such as the elegant Roussanne, Merlot for the generosity of its fruit, and the noble Cabernet Franc. The Mas du Soleilla has strong qualitative ambitions. All vines are with high trellising. We devote plenty of manual work to taking care of the vineyard. In respect to the environment we follow the requirements of integrated plant protection. The grapes are picked by hand. The yields are very low (~ 28 hl/ha). We produce approximately 90.000 bottles a year. |
