India's wine industry is still in its infancy but estimates suggest it holds huge potential for growth in both consumption (25% annual growth over the next three years) and production. While India ranks only 77th in terms of wine consumption, it has a core base of 200 million consumers (comparable to the population of the United States).

Over the last decade, wine has developed a fashionable and cosmopolitan image in India, and soaring wine sales (25% to 35% annual growth over the last ten years) have been driven by a number of factors. First of all, an increase in disposable income means that more people are now able to afford luxury goods, and the resulting shift in lifestyle and standard of living is clearly perceptible. Secondly, favourable government policies combined with the emergence of wine clubs are serving to educate consumers and make wine more accessible to everyone.
